The situation
It is my first visit to a family doctor (Hausarzt) in Germany. I have had a sore throat and a fever for three days and I need a sick note for my employer.

What is a Hausarzt?
A Hausarzt is a family doctor (GP). It's the first doctor you see for most health problems. The Hausarzt treats you, writes sick notes, and gives you a referral (Überweisung) when you need a specialist.
