How these words get used

Chef is your boss, not a cook. das Gehalt is a fixed monthly salary, while Lohn is pay by the hour. Homeoffice looks English but is a German coinage for working from home.

A few things the contract words imply. The Probezeit can last up to six months, and during it either side can end the contract with two weeks' notice. Urlaub is paid leave. The legal minimum is 20 days on a five-day week, and many contracts give more. For a Krankmeldung you tell your employer on the first day, and the doctor's note is typically due from the fourth day unless your employer wants it earlier. A Zeugnis here is the reference letter you get when you leave, written in a polite code of its own.

Grammar: der Kollege adds -n in every case but the nominative (mit dem Kollegen). Vorgesetzter declines like an adjective: der Vorgesetzte, ein Vorgesetzter. You apply with sich bewerben: Ich bewerbe mich um die Stelle.
