Get the SifuLingo German vocabulary app

SifuLingo is a web app. It is not in the App Store or Google Play. You open sifulingo.de in your browser, sign in, and add it to your home screen. From then on it opens full screen with its own icon, like an installed app, and updates arrive on their own, with no store update to wait for.

How to install it

Install it from the browser you already use. You can sign in before or after; the account is what makes it yours.

You need an account to use it

Installing puts the icon on your device; signing in is what loads your words. Do it in whichever order you like.

Create an account

  • iPhone and iPad

    Safari

    1. 1Open sifulingo.de in Safari.
    2. 2Tap the Share button, the square with an arrow pointing up.
    3. 3Choose "Add to Home Screen".
    4. 4Tap Add. The SifuLingo icon is now on your home screen; open it and sign in.

  • Android

    Chrome

    1. 1Open sifulingo.de in Chrome.
    2. 2Tap the three-dot menu at the top right.
    3. 3Choose "Add to Home screen" or "Install app", whichever your version shows.
    4. 4Tap Install. The SifuLingo icon is now in your app list; open it and sign in.

  • Desktop

    Chrome or Edge

    1. 1Open sifulingo.de in Chrome or Edge.
    2. 2Click the install icon at the right end of the address bar, or open the browser menu.
    3. 3Choose "Install SifuLingo".
    4. 4SifuLingo opens in its own window and shows up with your other apps.

Does it work offline?

Not really, and I would rather say so than promise otherwise. SifuLingo needs an internet connection: reviews, stories and scans all talk to the server. If you lose the connection mid-session you get an offline page instead of a broken screen, and a page you opened a moment ago may still show, but you cannot review offline yet.

Why not the app stores?

Fair question. I am one developer, and a web app ships the same code to every phone and laptop at once. There is no store review to wait for, so a fix reaches you the moment I deploy it, and there is no store commission, which is part of what keeps the price where it is.

Installed from the browser, it behaves like a normal app: full screen, its own icon, one tap to open. If enough people ask for a store listing I may add one later. For now, this page is the app listing.

What you get

The SifuLingo home screen on a phone: the words due for review today, the last 7 days of activity, and this week's story.
A SifuLingo review card on a phone: a German word with its translation and example sentence, and the buttons to rate how well you remembered it.
